Travel to Italy and make your dreams come true! Just like Frances Mayes did!
Her journey was made into a romantic comedy film in 2003. “Under the Tuscan Sun”, which is loosely based on Frances Mayes’ 1996 memoir with the same name, tells the story of a San Francisco based writer, who travels to Tuscany to get away from all the drama in her life, after she finds out that her husband has been cheating on her. While in Tuscany, she purchases a villa, and after that the story of her life takes a major turn towards a very happy ending.
Diana Lane, the actress who plays Frances Mayes received a Golden Globe Award nomination in the best actress category. And the Italian heartthrob, Raul Bova, plays Marello who she has a brif romance with.
The movie does justice portraying a beautiful Italian countryside, and a 16th century house in Cortona as the villa, which is walking distance of the actual 200-year-old house of the author known as Bramasole. A line in Hollywood Reporter’s 2012 article about the featured house, describes the film as one “which fed filmgoer fantasies of buying and restoring an Italian countryside villa”.
An article about Frances Mayes published by NYTimes, states that being able to ‘take a nap at nine in the morning’ is one of the reasons that has made Italy her favorite.
Check out the beautiful Italian locations where the movie has been made, and tell you still doubt having a trip to Italy!
